Chad Lakes
One gate, five acres, and three things going on behind it.
Off the B4450 between Bledington and Stow-on-the-Wold, down a gravel drive that does not look like much until it opens out. Two spring-fed lakes with a causeway between them, a lodge set low on the bank, and a hatch by the car park that starts pouring coffee before most of the county is awake.
It was a working fishery first. Everything built since has been built around not spoiling it.
Damion and Harumi live on site — twenty years in Tokyo, then this, and a cockapoo called Bella. Between them they run the lodge, the lakes and the coffee hatch, which means the person answering the phone is also the person who knows whether the kingfishers were out this morning.
Five acres does not sound like much until you are the only people on it. There are two lakes to walk, a heron who thinks he owns the shallows, and enough distance from the road that the evenings go properly quiet.

Four cabins, going up on the far bank.
Four self-contained cabins are being built along the quiet side of Chad Pool — one to a swim, each with the water four steps from the door. Built for anglers who want a bed, a hot shower and a door that shuts, without giving up the night on the bank.
Visual — how the four cabins will sit on the far bankEach cabin has its own peg and its own stretch of bank. Nobody walking through, and nobody setting up beside you at two in the morning.
A real bed, a hot shower and somewhere dry to put wet kit — rather than three nights under a brolly.
Rods out of the door and a covered deck to sit under, so the session carries on whatever the weather does.
Enough to cook properly and a firepit outside, with the coffee hatch a two-minute walk up the track.
